How damaging is straightening and coloring your hair?

I've been coloring and straighening my hair for about 5 years now. Everyone says that its so horrible for your hair but I haven't noticed anything. Whats the truth about the full damage effects your hair can have from constant coloring and straightening?

If you use the right product your hair wont damage as much, for straightening you need to use something to protect your hair shaft from the intense heat, try using farouk-biosilk, not only does it smell good, you can use it on your entire body, and since you only use a dime size amount (a little goes a long way, if you use too much you'll get a greasy affect), it lasts forever, and don't freak out when your flat iron seems to steam, its called ghosting, and thats the product not your hair it will show you that if thats what it does to the product what do you think it will do to your hair. second watch what heat setting your styling products are on if you have really curly hair but its still pretty fair (not coarse) you should only need to use a medium to low heat setting. and with the coloring NEVER use a box color that you buy from the store, you don't know the level of ammonia that they put in the color, you can achieve any level of color without having to use high ammonia, people only use high ammonia if they are going Platinum, covering grey or they don't want to spend the time keeping the integrity(sp?)of your hair. you can also keep it looking fresh by trimming regulary and using professional shampoos and conditioners

Depends on how and where you do it. Done correctly, it can be safe and the possible side effects don't seem to be a concern for you. Luck you. You could lose hair, traction allopecia, you could get an allergic reaction from the chemicals, you could get a lot of other problems, however you are the bset judge of how you feel. if you notice anything changing, stop. if not, keep looking good.!

straighening can be damaging if you use a straighener with metal plates, look for one with ceramic plates. as for coloring, it's not that harmful if your going darker and you use a dye that contains no ammonia
