I don't use any kind of heat protector cream and my hair stays healthy looking. If you want your hair to have volume try using a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Fructis has a really good Body %26amp; Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. I use a leave in conditioning spray to keep it hydrated, put mousse in when it's wet and then blow dry and it's pretty much already straight. The only thing I use a flat iron for is my bangs as they never dry straight enough.

After I straighten I use Fructis Shine spray to add a little bit of gloss.
