If your trying to get volume in your roots take the top layer aside then under the top tease useing a comb and brushing hair towards the scalp then put the layer back to covewr the messy tease

You have to have some sort of product in it to dirty/thicken it up. What I do is use a root lifter after I dry and straighten my hair. I spray the root lifter to my roots of the top of my head then blow dry my hair upside down. This gives me volume after I straightened it. Then I take section by section and spray an aerosol hairspray (Paul Mitchell's Super Clean Extra's great) then tease the section, then repeat all over. After teasing and lightly combing out spray with a firm hold hairspray (Paul Mitchell's Freeze %26amp; Shine's great) And it should hold all evening : )

"Part your hair, then pick up 1/2 inch sections on either sides of the part, spritz the roots with a hairspray, then tie them (like a shoelace) together. Repeat all along your part (the tension from the 'ties' pulls the hair in the opposite direction, creating volume). Wait 10 minutes, flip upside-down, tousle you roots so the ties come undone, then flip up." -- Jet Rhys

after you straighten hair tease from the roots! no the tips of your hair, that'll look bad.

You get a fine toothed comb, (or a brush-preferably a comb though) and tease from the roots down, only a few centimetres but

good luck
