Can thermal straightening permanently change hair's structure?

I used a flat iron and/or curling iron daily for several months, and now my very curly hair isn't so curly anymore, even when I just wash %26amp; go. Help, I want back my curls. Now that it's grown a bit, I can see where the roots are curly, but the length and ends are barely wavy. Help! What can I do?

I don't really know if it can change the hair "stucture" but if you want your curly locks back, get a trim and deep conditioning done. That might help.

No, you havent wrecked your internal hair structure or anything - all you've done is dryed out the hair you have, so it doesnt have the body and strength it once did. Its probably quite worn out from so much heat treatment! Once it grows out, the new hair will be healthy and shiny. In the meantime though, avoid using hot tongs/irons on it, or even blowdrying it, for a while. Get a good treatment conditioner and maybe a leave-in conditioner for after you've washed, and that'll help your 'old' hair. Get regualr trims too and that'll promote the growth of the new, curly, healthy hair!
