I need help with telling my mom about straightening my hair.?

I was thinking about getting andis hair straightener at wal mart. I have wet2straight and this other hair straightener they aren't good for my hair. I have puffy frizzy wavy hair. If the andis wasn't as good as my other hair straighteners then i was thinking about returning it and getting this revlon hair straightener. I asked my mom but she doesn't care. It gets me so mad. She doesn't understand because she already has straight hair. I'm never going to treat my kids like this. I need a way to tell my mom in a way she can understand. It gets me mad i wish i can just take her money from her bag and buy everything i want. Please Help!

If you believe you hair is really that bad, ask your mom to set up an appointment up at a hair salon and have a stylist take care of your hair. Over the Counter hair products usually do not work very well. You may need to have a reverse perm, which can straighten your hair for 4 to 6 weeks at a time. This should be done by a professional because some products may contain lye, which if not used properly and cautiously can burn your scalp. So, return that andis straightener, go to the salon, have your hair done and walk out the door feeling like a super model!! Best of luck to you sweety!!

I wouldn't use any from a store like that I would go to a beauty supply store and get the one they recommend for your hair type and the price isn't much different usually. With straighteners if you don't use the right one you can just fry your hair and make it even worse.

It sounds more like a money issue then a mom or hair issue... There are some very expensive, high quality hair straighteners on the market. Save up some cash and treat your self to the best one you can afford.

i know what your saying. my mom is white and i am mixed, and it is hard for me because my mom dosent understand that my hair isnt like hers. you have to tell her that your hair and her hair are different, which means that your hair has different needs and ways to take care of it. if she still dosent understand, still try to take care of your hair the way you want to. maybe you should go to a salon and get a relaxer instead of buying them at stores, all of the money you spend on them, add up. also, you should try flat ironing your hair, and add some grease before you straighten each section, believe me it works.

Oh puuuleeez! Big deal, there are people starving to death in the world and you are worrying about telling your mom about a hair straightener? If it is the money that is the problem, why don't YOU pay for it? You are probably too young to get a job, but you could babysit or something. Then buy the straightener for yourself and be happy that you worked for it. If your mom thinks it's a waste of money, or she has something against straighteners, tell her that this is the one and only thing that will make you happy and say that all the girls at school have straight hair and they make fun of you and you have no friends and nag and wine and cry untill your mom agrees to let you have it. Or another idea would be to wait for your birthday or christmas and ask a relative that would be willing to buy it to get the straightener for you. Good luck!

I know I am fabulous!

Well tell your mom your getting frusturated with the way she's treating your thoughts and tell her you feel like when she trys to curl her hair it's the same way with you trying to straiten your hair. Your straightener may not be bad try using Garnier Fruitics

Smoothing Balm it's like 3 bucks and works great for fizzy hair. If you buy from Avon try the straight and sleek balm or ask you sylist hope this helps -horseygirl

Hi,

It sure is a bummer when you hate your hair.....I know how you feel. But with hair, the grass is always greener on the other side....meaning straight haired people want curly and curly haired people want straight.

For sure, don't take money from your Mom. That will really make her mad and you'll get in trouble. If money is the issue, maybe you need to get a part time job to make some of your own money, then you can buy your own hair stuff. Can you babysit, do extra chores, walk dogs, work at fast food, etc.? Anything for some extra cash?

Regarding your hair......I suggest you forget about the straightener and save up your money to get a haircut from somebody really good that can work with your hair texture. They'll tell you what products and stuff to use to make your frizzy, wavy hair relax and look nice.

You are going to be stuck with your hair type/texture for your ENTIRE LIFE......it is so much easier to figure out how to work with the hair you've got than to spend forever figuring out how to change it (straightening it). Do you really want to have to straighten your hair for the rest of your life, or would you rather figure out how to make your wavy, frizzy hair look nice? I would prefer the second option.

Speak with your mom about helping you find a great hairstlyist that knows how to work on your type hair. Hopefully, she might be interested in helping, especially if you've earned the money to pay for it yourself.

In the meantime, try watching the show "What not to wear" on TLC Friday at 9 pm. They have this guy on there at the end, Nick, that cuts the people's hair and he makes them look fabulous! He gives tips on what products to use, how to cut it, blow dry, scrunch, etc. You might find some useful tips.

Good luck to you.....and I hope you grow to love the hair you have. ;-)

If your wanting to straighten your hair temporarily, then I'd suggest John Freidas frizz-ease blow-dry lotion. If your wanting straighten it permanently, I'd suggest a mild relaxer or for a chemical-free solution, get a straighening comb and use on the lowest setting.

Stop trying new hair straighteners, and just try better styling products. Smoothing shampoo and conditioner will help the ones you already have work better. Your mom probably isn't very concerned, because she thinks you are beautiful just the way you are. Maybe you are.

Just talk to her, explain why you want it so much.

I've bought at least 5 straighteners in the past few years. I spent $100 dollars on a Helen of Troy flat iron at a beauty supply store and it broke twice so it was getting expensive. I went to Wal-Mart and bought a Revlon straightener with 25 heat settings for $20 and it works BETTER than the others.

I have a daughter that is 12. She loves to use my straightener before she goes to school. She wants her own, but my cost just under a $100. I would suggest getting a job(babysitting, cleaning, etc) and saving to buy your own. If my daughter demanded me to buy one, whined everyday I wouldn't do it. Lighten up on your mom. She pays for everything that you have. You could ask family members to pitch in for a Christmas present. You'll have to be patient, and realize that you can't have everything you want. The brand I have is a CHI. You can get them from a salon or on line.
