Does straightening the hair cause any damage to the hair??

Any time you put a chemical on your hair to change it it changes it chemically and that causes damage. You have to "open" the cuticle of the hair shaft to get the perm/ straightener/color/ whatever into the hair itself, and that leaves it open to drying out. That is why most products have deep conditioner with them. It probably won't hurt the appearance of your hair to do one or even two processes to it, but it will cause damage, even if you can't see it.

Don't straighten your hair by yourself. You should ask a professional hairdresser. My hair was curly but I go to the salon every 6 months for straightening. And for 10years of doing it luckily my hair still looks healthy. Report It

Does straightening the hair cause any damage to the hair??

No it will not, only if you do it every single day it will get dry and you will get slipt ends but all people are different. I say GO FOR IT!!!

Does straightening the hair cause any damage to the hair??

yes!! it can ruin your hair!..

Does straightening the hair cause any damage to the hair??

yeah it will. i dont know if your talking about with chemical or the iron. but they both give you split ends. but some hair types handle it better then others. it can make your hair really brittle and dry and it might make your hair really pretty and straight. do what you want.

Does straightening the hair cause any damage to the hair??

Straightening DOES damage your hair if you have a bad straightener, or if you're straightening your hair too much. I have curly hair and when I decide to straighten it, I put some gel in before I start straightening it. Also, if you straighten it too much, the ends looks really damaged, the most. They look ratty.

I (actually, my mom) started straightening my hair when i was about 12-13. I'm decades older now. Back them, they had Curl Free (home kits)....vile smelling stuff that almost peeled the paper off the walls. Any chemical applied to the hair can damage the hair/scalp/roots, etc.(See URL #1, below) My hair was very frizzy. I also had my hair wrapped, iron, and whipped into shape. Back then, we all wrapped our hair. So, would I encourage anyone to apply chemicals to their hair to get it straight? Only after they try other things first.

I found that getting a good (ion shine) blow dryer will be an excellent first step. I started using one about a year ago and can't believe the difference. It seems to be made to add shine and straighten out the hair. Give one of those a try. Search the Net for reviews (or go to amazon.com and look at the customer comments for each blow dryer).
