Is straightening your hair everyday with ceramic straightners bad?

Even if you use a heat protective product on it before hand,

also is it best to do it when hair is bone dry or slightly damp?

Is it more likely to be damaging if you have finer longer hair rather than thicker hair

Is straightening your hair everyday with ceramic straightners bad?

it really depends on the condition of your hair, if you use the protector then its fine.... thicker hair tends to stay more healthier...

Always test the heat level of a new appliance before you ever apply it to the hair. A piece of moistened tissue paper should be inserted in the appliance and held for a few seconds without any scorching. If the paper gets discolored, the iron is too hot.

Another thing many people don't realize is that the hair needs to be COMPLETELY dry before you use a heated appliance on it. Work with small sections and thin segments, and apply a small amount of hairspray and allow it to dry before you wind it on a curling wand or pass it through a flat iron. This will give you the clean crisp results you desire.

And you'll want to make sure your hair is well conditioned before you use heated appliances. And you should consider a weekly deep-conditioner to protect the hair and restore the moisture the styling takes away. A daily leave-in conditioner is also a good way to keep heat-styled hair from drying out.

using any hot straightners against your hair is damaging, even if you use protective products (it just makes things slower)

you need to straighten it when it's bone dry

when it's damp you're just burning your hair and damaging it insanely (giving it split ends and such)

and i'm not sure how to answer your last question,

sorry! =(

You'll start to thin your hair out

general rule is - do deep conditioning treatments, use leave in conditioner after shampooing/conditioning hair, detangle hair using a wide tooth comb - starting at the ends and working ur way up, use thermal protection spray and a serum/defrizz cream and get ur ends trimmed every 4-6 weeks.

alot of ppl think tht because ceramic straighteners geat up so high it will damage ur hair - infact it does the opposite. cos they heat up high temps, it means u dont need to keep going over ur hair to get it straight, meaning less damage. obviously any heat on ur hair will damage it to an extent, but by using the correct products etc u will help minimise damage

straighteners should only be used on DRY hair unless is does say other wise.

i have bleached highlighted hair, i use GHD's on my hair most days and my hairs still in better condition than most ppl's hair.

i think it damages mine. so every now and then when it looks dried out, i snip the ends, and it looks healthier.

Straighteners are not good at all for your hair...It will eventually look all dried out and frizzy...

Extreme heat from blow drying and straightening your hair can cause damage to the hair - resulting is breakage or a dull appearance. as a way of over coming this problem the people at GHD have developed the GHD Thermal Protector (please note this replaced the old GHD iron oil)

The GHD Thermal Protector is a heat protection spray, which is specially designed to nourish and strengthen hair and guard against damage, which can be caused by regular heat styling.

The spray is specially formulated to deflect and absorb heat, protecting the hair shaft and also protects against UVA.

There are 3 GHD Thermal Protector products available, one for each hair type. Select the hair type which most applies to you from "Normal To Fine Hair", "Weak And Damaged Hair" and "Dry To Course Hair".

For best results use the protector on slightly damp/towel dry hair prior to blow drying and straightening. If you are in a rush you can still use it on dry hair. just be careful that you don't over apply otherwise your hair could become slightly sticky or tacky.

Remember to protect your hair from dmage caused by heat styling - this is a area that people often overlook - damaged hair does not look great!!!!!

Personally, I think so.

I straighten my hair all the time and it has got noticeably thinner over a couple of years - and my hair was already thin! My hair line has been creeping back too. I use expensive shampoo, conditioner and treatments as well, either Tigi or Kerastase.

I now try to straighten every other day or have a break here and there cos I am worried I might lose all my hair!

I am still ganna keep straightening as I like the look, but I am painfully aware of the damage it is having on my hair!

Always make sure your hair is bone dry before straightening your hair. If you use a heat protector you will be fine, but I would advise you to use a good Conditioning Masque once a week, and leave it on your hair as long as possible, this way you are putting back some of the lost moisture. Always use a conditioner after your shampoo when you wash your hair during the week and if you can put on a leave in conditioner great, they are wonderful and really benefit the hair. Thick hair is usually in better condition than thin hair but that still won't affect the use of the straighteners everyday as long as you use the heat protection spray.

Hope This Helps

Good luck
